Northeast community to get own blood bank in Delhi
To cater to the large Northeast community residing in the national capital region, a blood bank exclusively for the people belonging to the eight states will come up in Delhi, officials said on Saturday.
According to IGP Robin Hibu, Nodal Officer for North East People in Delhi Police, the initiative is a result of a joint effort between Apollo Hospitals, Red Cross and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Hibu said that all voluntary blood donors from the Northeast community will be given blood donor cards which they use to help others anywhere in Delhi at any hospital.
Meanwhile, NGO ‘Helping Hands’ will coordinate the whole processes of organising blood donation camps, issuing donor cards, maintaining records, etc.
So far, 7, 471 volunteers from the Northeast have enlisted their names for blood donation, Hibu said, adding that people willing to get attached to the noble cause by donating blood can send their name and address, state, occupation, and age by SMS or Whatsapp on 9810083486.
